Will Mike Scannell & Co. repeat as national champs?

Mike Scannell

Speaking of Scannell, he has a major championship to defend this year.

The 45-year-old Grand Blanc man was part of the Front Line Racing Team group that won the masters 10K title in the USA Track & Field National Club Cross Country Championships Dec. 9 in San Francisco. Scannell finished ninth overall on a muddy course in 33:27.

Scannell, a former Arizona State runner, was the No. 2 runner for Front Line, which was essentially a Michigan masters all-star team. Marquette's Tracy Lokken won the individual championship.

It's amazing that they were able to get that many quality runners to make the trip all the way to San Francisco last year. With the club cross championships coming to West Chester, Ohio this year on Dec. 8, it'll be easier to get the group back together and make a run at a repeat.
