Mark Good
finished the Citizen Patriot Run/Walk Series
with a pair of standout performances in a
90-minute span Saturday.
Good finished
second in the men's 5-mile race with a time of
26 minutes, 59 seconds, then finished third in
the 5k run with a time of 17:22 at the
Allegiance Race to Health.
Going into
the race, Good was in third place in the
overall men's points competition. Although he
was 86 points behind Josh McAlary of Jackson
and three points behind Ben Alger of Grass
Lake -- neither of whom competed in Saturday's
race -- the final results will not be
available until later this week.
Running the
two races in one day was not meant to improve
Good's place in the points standings as much
as it was a personal challenge. He has run
both races many times before, but this year
was more difficult than previous years because
he has a 1-year-old.
``I like to
run as many races as I can, and here, I had
two of them,'' Good said.
Good, who
finished five points behind McAlary for last
year's overall men's points title, said this
year's run series was better than most years.
``The quality
of the runners was better than it has been,''
Good said.
Steve
Menovcik of Grand Ledge won the men's 5-mile
race with a time of 26:51.
Dan Dixon of
Jackson won the men's 5k race in 16:55. Dixon
also finished third in the 5-mile race.
In the
women's 5-mile race, Lindsey Burdette of
Horton won with a time of 32:09.
Burdette, a
freshman at Hanover-Horton High School,
finished third in last year's points series in
the girls 14-and-under division but was the
leader going into Saturday's race.
``I think I'm
improving and getting better this year,''
Burdette said.
Danielle
Quisenberry of Jackson won the women's 5k with
a time of 18:14.
The top two
runners in the women's overall points
competition, Kristina Olsen of Jackson and
Meggan Freeland of Albion, did not compete in
the final race. Olsen held a 24-point lead
over Freeland.
